Operator is a 1-2 player audio puzzle game where players act as surveillance agents, tuning a wiretap to capture clear signals and recording evidence of illegal activity to solve puzzles.
Inspired by the films The Conversation and The Lives of Others, I set out to create an audio experience that explores the voyeuristic nature of surveillance. The Arduino-based controller looks retro, though the story you discover while playing touches on modern themes of power and surveillance.
My aim is to immerse players in a thought-provoking experience, encouraging them to reflect on how technology tracks us and consider their own roles when wielding power. As so much of our lives revolve around digital screens, this project emphasizes analog interactions. The controller and pen-and-paper logic puzzle focuses on sound and touch, fostering a tactile multiplayer experience.
